No, you cant do that without a relay.

I found a 5 pole normally closed, 5V reed relay at Digi-key.

Hopefully this pic explains it. Im not sure if that switches LED is rated for 12v or not, so youll have to determine that starting with a lower voltage. Itll either be hooked up by the 12v or 5v from your PSU, and use the negative from the HDD LED header.

The positive from the HDD header will go to the relay which will shunt (short, turn off etc) the negative to pole 87a to the LED switch turning it off.

That's awesome! The pic makes sense. When you said relay I was thinking of a different type which makes a clicking sound. Didn't want that to be happening. Thanks for the info.

No, thats why i specified a reed relay, holding it to your ear youd barely be able to hear it, or feel it switching in your fingers.
