Marvell 9128 or Intel RST

I have been told I should get better performance running RST instead of Marvell 9128.

Reason for using Marvell was that it supported 6Gb/s whereas for my native 3Gb/s sata II.

How should I compare these two results:

Motherboard is Gigabyte P55A-UD3 rev.1

I think RST only controls ports that are connected through the chipset. The Marvell is an add on, it's not native to the chipset. The Marvell driver is as good as you'll get.

BTW, your 4k scores are good so you're not really losing much when it's comes to day to day usage.

You are right. Regarding TRIM, how can I tell it is currently enabled and working? Do I need to look up by typing in cmd?

Try downloading CrystalDiskInfo and seeing what it says.

Thank you, however it is just showing that it supports TRIM, also checked at command prompt.

I guess that the only to verify that TRIM is working is to observe the activity on the ssd while/after deleting a large sized file(s)?

The results I am getting when running with RST native sata II, is acceptable?

Can it be optimized?

Intel ports support TRIM, Marvell ones don't. And yes, there is no easy way to check if TRIM is enabled for sure. But the extensive tests conclude that Marvell doesn't support TRIM. Plus, if they did, they would announce it, but they never did. Imo the result is a bit low but you pretty much did all you could. Do you have write back cache enabled in Device Manager for your drive?

you should stay off of the marvell at all costs. it is a widely known fact that Marvell is suxors on the P55 boards.

I was hoping for a better result as well but for now I have to stay with this motherboard, need to squeeze the last drop out of the setup.

Write-Caching is marked as enabled, and the other setting is unmarked.

I thought buying this motherboard would make it worth getting for its price with Sata 3 just coming out, and unaware of its construction I just bought it.

Learned a bit more how components are compiled...glad I bought the ssd anyway, it will be transferred to my recently bought Dell XPS one day...

Thank you all for your concerns and help.
