There was an open box 480 Lightning for $230-ish the other day on newegg. THAT would be your best option if you could snag one.
In progress.

I don't even care to look at rebates when purchasing items anymore.
Thats what I'm going to start doing in the future. :/

1gb is getting less and less these days, too. If you go 560ti, I'd go with the 2gb card (assuming you can find one in your price range).
Considering the OP mentions he doesn't mind lowering the res, I wouldn't bother with the 2GB 560s.

If you're buying new, I'd say the 560Ti Hawk or the Gigabyte SOC would be perfect. Both come highly OC'd from the factory and have 8+1 and 6+1 power phases (respectively) w/VRM cooling if you want to push them further. A few OCN peeps are running those well over 1000MHz core on air.

If you're including used hardware, a 2nd hand 480 or maybe SLI 460s (not sure what they go for atm) would be the most power you can get for your budget.

^ 560 Ti SOC ftw. (oops fanboy spotted! )

Seriously you have 2 options get an insane 560 Ti or a 570. I'd say watch the deals and get what you can find...
