Hello there, new to computers, new to this site, new to everything really, but here is the first computer I have bought and built (all my others were hand me downs, this is the first computer i have owned that is faster than 1.6GHz

Anyway, here are the specs:
AMD Phenom 955
Gigabyte 990xa-UD3
Corsair Vengeance Blue 4GB Ram
MSI 6870 Twin Frozr II
Thermaltake TR2 700W
500GB Seagate Barracuda
LG DVD+/- RW
Bitfenix Shinobi Case
LG M2280D (Monitor/Tv)

Just before anyone starts on at me saying ZOMG WHY DIDNT YOU WAIT FOR BULLDOZER, I thought it all through
Got an AM3+ motherboard so that when the time comes I can upgrade to BD quickly, and I also got an overspecced PSU to cope if I want to crossfire my 6870 (I probably wont need to)

System is used for everything really, some gaming, some browsing, some light photo/video editing and homework

Cable management is crap compared to some of the lovely stuff I have seen on here but thats what I get for buying a non-modular power supply
may end up sleeving it but I dont know if I want to void my warranty

Without further ado, here are some pictures (sorry for the quality, I a) cant take photos to save my life and b) Its a phone camera.)

For some reason they are in the completely opposite order to which i took them. Hmm.
So, any comments/criticisms/tips/free stuff? Btw, first on my list of changes is to stealth the DVD drive. No idea how to do this though, help pleeeease?

Thanks for reading this unnecessarily long post

TlDr; here is my new computer and some pictures.

Congrats on your first build. I looks nice and should keep you entertained for a bit, especially once you start OCing it.

Looks great (cept the stock heatsink)

Congrats!

Very nice! Looks like you left yourself open for upgrades as well down the line.

AM3+ for that BD
The psu has a large enough capacity for another 6870 in crossfire, great scaling.
OFC room for an SSD

Congrats!

When you are ready to do some OC'ing, which you are going to have to do if you ever want to crossfire with that 955, then you should get an aftermarket cooler.
I recommend the 212+, best bang for your buck. If you want to step up, go with Frio, Silver Arrow, D14.

Yeah, that is most likely going to be my next purchase, really looking forward to it. From what I've seen online I think I will probably be going with the Frio, I dont want to spend too much and it looks like it has good performance

Wow for a first build you really did a good job with the cable managment. Everything looks clean and good. Kudos to you sir!

This was my first build and initial cable routing was a mess, had to go back later and fix it.
Yeah, I did spend a disproportionate amount of time cable managing

I think it was something like an hour building the computer and then about 3 more hours sitting there with the zip ties and a pair of scissors

Next purchases will be keyboard and mouse (just bought a G500 and a nice £20 keyboard, both comfy which is my main concern), Aftermarket heatsink (Probably a TT Frio), SSD and then probably a nice BD cpu. And if I can convince my parents a second monitor

Cheap = Hyper 212+
Excellent cooling = Megahalems/Silver Arrow/DH-14 (last one is huge, mind you)

Quiet fans? Looks like you only take 120mms, I would look into Gentle Typhoon AP-15s. Good for cases, heatsinks, and rads.

Shinobi windowless is my budget case of choice for sure. I love that look. Good build for 1st time.

I wish I would have read this sooner, I just sold my TT Frio OCK for $60. I bought it and never used it (didn't realize it was a 3-pin connection and my mobo is 4-pin).

Looks like a nice starter rig, but I agree with everyone; definitely need an aftermarket CPU cooler. I do hear good things about the CM Hyper 212 Plus. $27 on eBay, $28.43 on newegg.com, or $29.99 at Micro Center or on tigerdirect.com. The salesman at Micro Center tried to sell me on the 212, but I opted for a slightly more expensive cooler with better CFM.

Looks good!
Curious.... what did you do with the MOSFET heatsinks?
Did you pull them off accidentally like in my case?

You should realize that having the FETs cooled when aftermarket tower air cooling is installed is very important
