Those JBL's are "meh" at best. If you want something to just tinker around with, try to find an Alpine Type S. But for $50 you're not going to get much of a woofer at all. The Alpine Type R is the lowest I would EVER recommend going for a good sub. The Type S isn't bad, but its still just a low end speaker.

My advice:
If this is for a car setup, you need to spend more to get more. I won't spend less than $100-120 on a single subwoofer anymore (Type R). The subs I personally want are $250 each. Get a GOOD amp to power your subs. The subs are first priority, amp has to match the subs though (power and impedance).

If this is for a home audio setup, again...this is going the wrong route. Maybe look into the Polk dB 12 as a starter sub (around $70 USD). You'll want something with a decent amount of excursion, and a somewhat low power rating for a home system. And you'll need power from somewhere, which I would recommend a plate or rack amp for that use.

And obviously, both setups would need the PROPER box for the sub. That JBL video you posted, he's using too small of a box for those subs, they probably sound horrible in that enclosure.
I'm willing to spend quite a bit of money... Around $600 for amp and sub and car door speakers and this is aimed at the car. PC was just a curiousity that i had.

Is this them here?:

The speaker system will be used every day.

That would be them, yes. You'll want to try to find some new somewhere. Make sure they have the ribbed surround....not smooth. Those subs are BEASTLY and will take 750w RMS daily after being broken in.

A pair of those, mixed with a good 1500w monoblock, a tuned box at 32Hz, and you won't be able to sit in your car with it up full blast.

Which AMP would you recommend for the Alphine Type R system and what do you mean 'tuned box @ 32hertz'?

If you can find one, an Audiopipe AP15001D. Otherwise, maybe an MB Quartz ONYX 1000w. 1000w would be right at rated power on those Type R's, but it would work.

And make sure that you get 2 of the dual 4ohm versions. They come in a DVC 2ohm and DVC 4ohm. To run 2 subs, you'll want the 4 ohm coils, so you can wire to 1ohm at the amp (most monoblocks get their power at 1ohm).

Tuned box at 32Hz is just that. A tuned, ported box, that's tuned to 32Hz. You'll need to custom build your box to be the right size, dimensions for your trunk, and the right port area. Probably will end up being around 3 cubic feet per sub (with the port displacement in there). So probably around 6 cubic feet total for both subs.

If you're keeping it with a single sub setup.....

If you're going to use 2 subs, get the DVC 2ohm version of the subs. You'll want a 2ohm load at your amp to get full power. Heck, you might want the DVC 2ohm version anyway, wire it to a 4ohm load at the amp, that's still 600w RMS to it. Will allow you to add another later.

Match that up with a good custom box, and you're set. I'd shoot for around 2.5 cuft with a 32-33Hz tune if you want to hit low and clean.

I want two subs. One sub would look kinda silly. I'll have another look for the 2ohm versions.

That MRP-M1000 is a GREAT amplifier. I have the MRP-M650 in my car right now powering 2 Kenwood 12's. That line of amplifiers is slightly underrated too. They are a little spendy though, but they're a good amp.

If you're going for two...

Wire each sub up in series, so you get a 4ohm load at each sub. Then in parallel at the amp, so you'll get 2ohms at the amp.

That MRP-M1000 is a GREAT amplifier. I have the MRP-M650 in my car right now powering 2 Kenwood 12's. That line of amplifiers is slightly underrated too. They are a little spendy though, but they're a good amp.
I am spending quite a bit of money so if there is anyway to get the same performance for a little bit less money then do let me know how .
