Thread Starter
Hell, this will be my first attempt at a major build and was just trying to get some extra info. Mainly im just wondering if everything i have is compatible. i belive it is. i also have questions about the rams speed. the MOBO spec say 1600+ does that mean i can OC tom 2000? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, im concerned that the ram isnt the best

heres what im thinking

motherboard-EVGA 141-GT-E770-A1 LGA 1366 Intel X58
CPU-Intel Core i7-960 Bloomfield 3.2GHz LGA 1366 130W
memory-CORSAIR DOMINATOR 12GB (3 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
SSD-Corsair Force Series 3 CSSD-F120GB3-BK 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive
HDD- 2x

Western Digital Caviar Black WD2002FAEX 2TB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

Looks good to me. As for the RAM frequencies. A mobo can handle higher than 1600MHz if you overclock it that high. What the mobo specifications indicate is that it supports out of the box, such frequencies. IOW, if I have a mobo that supports up to 1600MHz, I can still get my RAM to 2133MHz if I manually OC it and am lucky that it stays stable. If some RAM says 1600MHz, it CAN go higher, but isn't recommended, as is a 3.4GHz 2600K but you CAN OC it to 4.5GHz and beyond.

Any particular reason you're going with a 1366 build over a 1155? 1155 will give you much more bang for your buck!

Unless you're going to be doing some multithreaded things you shouldn't be going for 1366. 1366 will provide some (not much) future proofing for intensive tasks if you use a 980X or 990X. Otherwise, go for 1155 or wait for LGA2011 before upgrading. Ivy-bridge will be coming to 1155 and will be compatible with P67, and if I'm not confusing processors, 2011 will have a hyperthreaded six-core extreme edition with an unlocked multiplier and BCLK.
