Difference between 4ghz and 4.6ghz? 1-4 fps, depending on the game. You really need quadfire 6990s to see a difference.

even with bad company 2, a 5850 reaches 100% usage before the processor even at stock speeds, so unless you're folding or something, in games the benefit will be 0 with that card (trust me,i have one too )

gta4 has been reported to get much better fps when oc'ed to above 4.5ghz multiple times. Other titles will give you probably 1-5% improvements in game fps.

I was talking about his HD 5850, as you should be able to tell by my post. I completely agree with your statement, but it's not related to what I posted.

OP, as most have said there's really no benefit of it for gaming if you're only using an HD 5850.

Your cooling system can handle the overclock, so as long as you stay within reasonable voltages, why not do it? It's a performance boost (small/large/whatever) for a very small amount of time and effort. I figure you might as well overclock it further.
