What are some games out there that actually require SLI and crossfire?

No game requires SLI or crossfire to play it.

Multi-card gaming has been around for a while, but its never been NEEDED. you could get two 9600Gts in sli, or a single gtx 580, doesnt mean the SLI setup is any better (because in this case it wouldnt be).

You can Cfx 2 lower end cards to have the same performance as a mid/higher end card for example. ie 2x 5770 will roughly give you a 5870 or 2x 6950 will beat a GTX580 in benchmark etc etc. Or you can CFx when you use 3+ monitors where it help a lot. Other then that, lot's of cards can run most game at max with one monitor at 1080p

So if i'm thinking of using 3 monitors, would the use of more than one card be much more beneficial (mid end cards)? thanks for the responses.

It all depends on the how demanding the games you play, for games such as BC2 a multi GPU setup is almost needed for a multi-monitor setup, but games like Counter strike Source, a single gpu would most likely handle it.

What is the res you are planning on doing and what games do you play?

EVGA. I wouldn't even touch XFX even if it meant to save my life. Customer service is crap, they release revised parts without saying anyting and a bunch of other shady stuff. They use to be freaking awesome now they are just.....horrible.

EVGA is nvidia only and are concidered one of the best companies around (customer service gets 6/5 stars from me).

As for xfire, grab an ASUS, GIGABYTE, or sapphire 5970.

I was thinking about dota 2 with 3 monitors at highest resolution possible. Could you also recommend a good graphics card for Nvidia? I was thinking in the price range of about $150.00. Thanks.

The biggest perks with XFX and EVGA are that they both give out lifetime warranties. EVGA usually has the better cards, but IMO, they are top dogs in the GPU department... not many out there that are better.

Really? Damn, last time I RMA'd with XFX (2007) they were really good to me. A shame if they've declined...
