Helps the solder on the pcb of the card to make good contact again.

Could be a loose connection with a resister for example.

Blah I'm so bummed and I just sold my backup cards...

Maybe I'll downgrade to a 570 so I can still use my AXP.

High voltage and clocks to be running that card 24/7. "Fresh" from RMA doesn't inspire confidence either. I'd suggest the gtx465 on sale at newegg for $99 then unlock to 470...OC to 915mhz to get gtx580 stock performance. Then call it a day.

That's what I did recently. Upgraded from a 4850.

Card never went above 55c, and I only gamed 1-2 days a week. So most of the time it was at like 50mhz.

Interesting idea but I'd want to use my AXP still

Might also go try Amd and get a 6970....

Yes.

I just had to do it on my 570 today because it was getting lines across the screen during boot and BSOD'd instantly in windows, all good now.

Protip: 395f/200c preheat, keep the card in there for no longer than 10 minutes, allow it to completely cool before putting it back together. Make sure you take all heatsinks/thermal pads off and clean up the paste. Line a baking tray with foil, and roll four little balls of foil to lift the card.

LOL

Like every 465/470 will do 915mhz

tats take the card out, leave it out for a few hours, then try again.

Also make sure to test at stock speeds, cpu/ram especially.

You should set ATItool to old(more compatible) method for arti scanning.

Under settings> artifact scanning.

Don't just shut it down, physically remove it for a few hours.

I've seen the same thing on the evga forums, some cards returned to normal after an extended period of being removed.

I know right? He says those are high clocks are volts for 24/7 then recommends a 915Mhz 470. One does not simply walk into 915Mhz!

Also I've seen it brought up a few times that you are kinda throwing this "470@915Mhz=580@stock" without any decent proof to back it up. Did you ever actually verify this yourself? Or are you still just going off of reviews?
