:/ not really seeing the appeal here.

90% of CS players have worthless computers. CSS likely is the best thing they've ever seen and they are likely still wondering why they cant get over 20fps.

Half of those players are still content with cs1.6 and will never move away from it because its just so "leet".

New players to the franchise will hate it as it's illusion of free choice lures them into nearly instant and long-lived deaths.

And lets face it, its a terrible game by any modern standard.

What...You've got to be kidding me. CS is one of the most competitive eSports titles to date and has been for damn near a decade, and not for no reason. The amount of teamwork and individual skill required to succeed is something that few games have matched. In the article they mention that they are trying to make SMGs, shotguns, and pistols more viable. They should just make the power of the bullets drop off with range just like they would in real life. That way a SMG or shotgun would be the best for close range combat just like in real life but once the target gets a little further away the rifles are the best.

I would also like to see a game include bullet drop. It seems dumb that you don't have to compensate for range. It would also be cool if the velocity of the bullets was taken into account. That way you would actually have to lead the target it you were shooting a slow bullet like a .45 at somebody far away.

For the last time, CS 1.6 players play because of the gameplay and what it offers. The game is so addictive most only play that, and if a cheap computer does it...then I guess it kinda works.

CSS looks a bit better, but everything feels different. The hitbox is a joke, only gun you need was deagle. Don't even want to talk about the radar.

Yeah, but they were obviously waiting for the opportune moment to release it, which is between Q4 of this year and Q1 of next year when people are just about over the hype of MW3 and BF3. Obviously you've never played a competetive game of counter strike.

Of course, bunny hopping was fixed in 1.6. Bunnyhopping only had benefit in 1.5 in which you could essentially gain infinite speed and therefor have an advantage. They capped the speed in 1.6 making it exactly the same as the run speed.

1.6 is not and never has been a twitch shooter. Infact, most players rely on a high DPI mouse with low sensitivity to ensure absolute accuracy. Obviously they are limited by their sponsors, hell, that's how Pro gamers make their money, I'm not gonna go into it, but you'll always see them using top of the line equipment, it's not just for show, it's a requirement.

I'll just edge in that CS1.6 is the game people refer to as being 'crowned' for it's gun balance. AWPs play a massive role in competetive, about coordinating your team so that one person, or more specifically the best sniper on your team, has enough money for an AWP as soon as possible so they can start doing work and help to win the round. Of course, AK being the 1shot headshot gun that it was, could always stand a slight chance against the AWP if you were a skilled player.

Well, CSS was ruined when they decided to impinge on the weapon balance in that 'big update' in 2009, when they moved to the EP2 engine. It ruined the game, the AK was gimped and the M4 became the power weapon. Making the game even more CT sided, of which it already was. Of course now they have people actively playing the beta and helping as best they can, unfortunately these are just pub players and the game has become competetively unplayable.

Speaking of FPS in competetive climates, CS1.6 still has comparatively large, sometimes even bigger prize winnings than the likes of CSS or CoD4, simply because it is what it is. Most everything by default has perfect balance.
