Help me decide which gpu?

Thread Starter
I was wondering what everybody thinks would be the better card to get. Would you recommend the HD6970 or the GTX570? I ask cause they are both pretty similar in price but I keep hearing people make comments now and then that the ATI/AMD drivers are crap and I want what will work best for gaming with as little problems as possible. Or should I up the budget a bit and get a GTX580?

570 is probably the sweet spot IMO for gaming. Why don't you fill out your system specs because that recommendation may change depending on the resolution of your monitor.

For 570s I would go with the

or the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121432. The Asus will be slightly cooler and run much quieter but the MSI will have slightly better chance of a high OC on average, obviously OCing isn't guaranteed.

Be sure to check out folding on your new GPU if you do decide to get an Nvidia card. Folding is a distributed computing project that simulates folding proteins to help provide data that could be used to find cures for diseases like cancer and Alzheimer's. You can find out more information from either of the two links in my signature, one is a link to lots of threads with information newbies might want, and the other is a guide to setup the client. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Do you know that that 6950 unlocks? You could be right because I don't know a whole lot about AMD GPUs, but I know that there are very few non-reference ones that unlock.

You never miss a heartbeat to tell people about folding do ya? I'm still overclocking my cards with new bios volt mods so I might get into folding with my collection of cards, if it happens I'll let you know .

It's something that I'd appreciate as thanks for helping out some newbies. So yea when I help somebody OC their card or help them pick out a card (if it's Nvidia) then I recommend they at the very least look into and consider folding.

Also I should clarify my first post in here, I was just really addressing the last part of his question the "should I just go all out and get a 580" that's what I was recommending a 570 to. I didn't really feel like touching the AMD vs. Nvidia driver debate, but other than that the 6950 and 6970 are both great cards at great prices last time I checked.

Fairly sure they are equal in speed mane favoring the gtx 570 but the NVIDIA has more stable drivers and physx and visa and better for folding

IDK about more stable. These last couple from nVidia have failed hard while 11.5 and above have done nothing but improve. Being a fanboy of either side is retarded.
