My First Intel: What do I get?

Thread Starter
Okay, so...here I am. I have an AMD Phenom II 6-core @ 2.6. I'm running into a HUGE issue of bottlenecking, while playing just about any game (it runs at 100%..constantly) and was thinking of just junking it and getting an Intel. It would be my first.

I have a budget in mind for a CPU, would love less than $200, but could go to maybe 250 if it was worth it. I have my eye on an I5 or better. maybe even push it to an I7 if it's worth me getting.

What should I get?

(also would need a board for it...$100 would be ideal there!)

I know its a tight budget, but I'm also not a United States Congressman.

i5 2500k for around $200 afaik and you could get a P67 mobo for around $125, the Biostar TP67XE is the best bang for buck mobo for sb.

For RAM read this: http://www.overclock.net/intel-memor...e-h67-p67.html

Hope that helps

From what I've read, briefly, that processor seems pretty nice! Would it be adequate for moderate gaming..such as MMO's and such? Would it last me a while?

How is your PII x6 a bottleneck? My X3 720 BE never runs at 100%....

2500k is amazing. Best Money/Power balance... If your not gonna OC then just a 2500. But spend the extra 10 bucks for the 2500k. Its a beast. You can easily hit 4.0 GHZ. im running @4.4 GHZ stable.

hitting 4.5ghz is a piece of cake with the 2500k, at those speeds you can eliminate any kind of bottleneck possible. Go for it!!!
