I'd say no, not at all. AFAIK the HD598 sound a little brighter than the 595s, but that' it. I certainly don't think it's worth an "upgrade". The 650s will be night and day, but of course they're much more expensive and will definitely require some sort of additional amplification. It's hard to recommend anything else if it has to be Sennheiser. I'd just keep the 595s until your budget allows for the 650s.

it'll be more of a sidegrade tbh.

How about a pair of used HD600s? They run for around 200-220. A new pair of HD598s go for ~$190 on Amazon at the moment so for just a whee bit more, you could upgrade to a pair of HD600s

"additional amplification" for the 650s..wouldnt a good sound card do the job? or are we getting into the range of high grade audio recievers?

and yes im aware im really close minded right now, ive just always had sennheiser, and their headphone design is great for me. not to mention i love the velvet lining.

I was not aware there were HD600s. so those would be a worthy upgrade?

*i also think what im going to do is save up for HD650s.

Are you kidding?

HD 595s are comparable with HD 555s, which are mainstream.

HD 600s are audiophile. They're comparable with the HD 650s.

No, a soundcard is far from ideal. The best bet would be the Essence ST/STX, but even that can't take full advantage of those cans. We're looking at serious headphones amp at this level. A lot more money. There really isn't much middle ground here unfortunately.. at least not from Sennheiser. As much as I love Senn, I recommend looking at other brands for this.

I don't see what's so funny about it. Sennheiser is a great brand, personally I'd never stray from them either.
