What makes the Deck Legend worth more than the Blackwidow Ultimate?

Thread Starter
I recently decided it's about time I jump into the world of mechanical keyboards. I've been using the G15 for years and years now, but I do spend a lot of the time typing, and I really envy the sound of those switches.
I'd like to keep the blue-backlit style, as that matches the rest of my system, and do lots of gaming in the dark.
I've narrowed my choices down to the Deck Legend and the BW Ultimate. I'm leaning towards the BW just because of the price, and though I generally don't trust Razer's keyboards, reviews seem pretty good (doesn't have those horrible laptop keys like the Lycosa). My question is, what does the Deck board have going for it that would warrant the extra cost? I've heard it has better "build quality", but honestly I don't think I put too much stress on my keyboards. This board must have lasted me 5-6 years easily, and mechanicals are supposed to last longer. What exactly is built "better", and how important is that?
The only other thing I've seen is that the Razer has that icky "mirror" plastic along the edges.. but judging from what most people say it doesn't seem to be a huge problem. I'm almost used to it, thanks to my DeathAdder.

So yeah.. thanks in advance guys!

I believe deck is okay with modding.

Read somewhere (I think it was here) that pulling a keycap voids your warranty with razer. Also, I think decks are better built and don't feel cheap. I was looking to get the tenkeyless version but I'm not a fan of mx blacks

With Deck it's a combination of things.

They use more expensive materials in their construction. Thicker Metal Plate, PBT Casing & Keycaps as well as a moding friendly warranty. As long as you don't carve up the PBC, they'll send you back your keyboard with whatever mods you have done if you have a dead switch or something.

There's also apparently a loss had by TG3 (the makers and Owners of Deck.)

PCB is also 3 Layer in the deck IIRC. Doesn't make much of a difference though.

Thanks for the info. I think I'll just go with the Razer. Durability isn't that big of a factor for me, and money certainly is.

Thanks!

Wut, Durability isn't a factor but money is?
If money is an issue, then you're supposed to pick the most durable one?
Dunno.

Deck Legend = Made in America (Wisconsin).

For quite some time, they were the only game in town when it came to backlit Cherry keyboards, and thus the premium. Not sure that the price is completely justified with various alternatives around.

delete, sorry!

well, as long as I'm here, consider the BW. BWU often has backlight issues, Razer's customer service is crap, and it's something like $40 cheaper.

They also have N-key rollover I believe. Razer cheaped out on $2 worth of diodes and their keyboard is only 2KRO.

From what I heard, Deck take's a loss.

Why that is, I don't know.

Then again, I can't figure out why they have trouble switching between USB and PS/2 like they do.

At the end of the day, I don't really think the current price on Deck's is justified unless you really want Clear's and you cannot or are not comfortable, with modding.

The price ranges between $149 (Fire or Ice) to $159 (Ice Tactile or Toxic) to $176 (Frost Tactile) which is crazy considering the difference between some is the LED's and switches.

I also forgot to note that Deck uses some really over-spec'd LED's for some reason. Not saying they should go cheap on them; but they basically just hired a SWAT Squad to attack some coke cans with their LED specs.

It's "Gamer Optimized" 2KRO. So as long as you don't mind being bound to the WASD cluster, then it's no problem for you. (Note, issues exist with the arrows and key blocking.)
