GTX460 Capabilities

Thread Starter
Hello

I bought a pre-built computer a couple months ago because it came with a nice motherboard and an i7 2600 @ 3.4GHz. Like most pre-built machines, though, it was bottlenecked. It came with and Intel HD 2000 graphics card and a 350w power supply. Since my birthday is coming up, I decided to upgrade that. So today I ordered a GTX 460 1MB and a 650w corsair power supply.

I'm super excited to see how it performs, but I was wondering if you guys could let me know the capabilities of my system. I won't be doing any heavy duty gaming, but I still will be gaming. Also, I have 8GB of RAM, so that's pretty nice.

Could someone let me know how well the GTX 460 1MB does with some popular games? I know there are tons of benchmarks and reviews out there, but I figured overclock.net would have some people willing to help.

Thanks so much!
-HJ

I would stay far far away from the gtx 460 tbh. I have 2 in sli and they are nothing to brag about. I play bad comapny 2 , battlefield 3 alpha "its closed now" , final fantasy xiv, wow, call of duty black ops, counter strike source, day of defeat source, arma 2 " with all xpax" and this card is ****.... If i had it all to do over again, when i built this pc i would have just got a gtx 480, and than got another later down the road.

I hope you mean "1GB"...

Anyway, as far as I know, graphics card performance has a lot to do with your screen resolution - the bigger the numbers, the better a graphics card must be to deliver an established level of performance.

For example, right now, I only have an 19" screen at 1440x900, and my GTX 460 (thus far not OC'd) maxes everything I've thrown at it so far...

I had an aTI Radeon HD4650 before this, and it still ran pretty smoothly.

I've owned GTX 460s.

At this point the 1GiB model is a respectable mid-range card. It's not going to max out recent games at high res, but should handle most of them at medium-high details with no AA well enough.

What?

The 460 is a great card. It still is the best bang for the buck card second to the 560 Ti. He said he's not going to be extreme gaming so he's not looking for hardcore 60fps in every game. It is perfect for what he's going to do. And to my knowledge, having used the card myself for a while, it maxes most of the games you talked about at modest settings.

Nice choice bro

I own a 460 that I'm very happy with. And it is a much better price/performance at $150 then a 560ti is at $250. I know those are both a little over the cheapest you can find them but it still holds true even at $135 to $220
