How long do you think the power of a 6870/GTX 560 will be around $100?
Considering these cards for example can max almost everything, how much longer do you think they will be around $100? Me I'm guessing about 6-8 more months?

And rebates/promo discounts doesn't count to make it $100.

These are upper mid range cards. Current lowest price of the 3-month old GTX560 (non Ti) is around US$190 and the 10-month old HD6870 at around $175. Even their immediate predecessors are not touching $100 mark yet (eg 13-month old GTX460 at around $160). However, the GTX260 seems to be around $100 now. (All newegg and amazon prices).

So, using the previous generations as a guideline, this means when the next generation's upper mid range cards (eg GTX660 and HD7870) hit the street, the current generation ones will not be selling at US$100-120 range.

Summarily speaking, it will be the release of the next generation top end cards first. Then come the upper mid range cards. And perhaps GTX560/HD6870 will drop to US$100 when the GTX760/HD8870 come out. So, we are talking about at least 15-18 months from now?

And I am sorry that my analysis is not so encouraging.

I purposely said the "power" of a 6870/560, so any card that is equal or better will have any chance of selling near $100-$120 soon. So something like a 660, or 7870 will be around that price.

Or.. you knew what I meant and you can just ignore this post.

Why ignore rebates though.... they are not hard to do and effectively lower the price.

My Galaxy GTX 460 768: $54 after tax, shipping, 3 rebates, and selling of Hawx 2 for $11 on Ebay.

My EVGA GTX 460 SE 1gb: $114 after rebate and tax, target of selling bundled software for $50-60 (very realistic), and Mafia II Steam Code for $9.99 (Steam currently has it for $30)-->$44-54 final price.

as you can see, ignoring rebates is a huge mistake imo... GTX 460s for $50ish.... hot as hell if you ask me.

Yeah I get that, but I meant the base price of it.

I agree with this, promos and rebates can really make for a great deal. I just got a XFX HD 6850 for under $80 shipped the other week once you factor in rebates and free games that I sold. $149 w/free shipping - $30 rebate - $15 (Dirt 3) - $20 (Shogun 2) - $8 (STALKER: COP) = $76. Champ little card that OC'd to 960/1160 at 6870 voltages.

But back to your real question, I think it will be at about another year before we see 6870 performance for $100 with no rebates. The 787x cards will likely launch at $240-ish. Current cards will drop, but only $30 at first so they will still be well over the $100 mark. The 77xx will likely match the performance of a 6870 and come in close to $100, but that will be about a year out from now before it is released.

Rebates should never be taken into account when on a budget since the credit card company doesn't accept them.
