Calculating strategy is very cpu intensive. I was discussing this the other day here:http://www.overclock.net/pc-games/1092790-what-pc-game-has-highest-hardware.html

A guy came along saying that AI calculation takes "hardly any CPU time" and to "trust him" because he was a "programmer". I reminded him that the most complicated and CPU intensive game programs ever witten are all for Chess. Emulating human thought and/or strategy always has been and will continue to be the most difficult task a computer can perform. Anybody in the programming field knows this, so I suspect his claim to being a "programmer" was complete windage. I don't have Civ V, but I have played all the others. I can remember running to the store and back before the AI finished it's turn playing CivII back in the old days. If Civ V is straining a kick butt Intel rig, my little 2 cylinder AMD would probably be smokin.
