Downgrade from 6950 2gb to 5970 2gb??

Hey

Guys, I can get a brand new Radeon HD 5970 2GB for just about 390$ from a nearby store. My current card is a Sapphire Radeon HD 6950 2GB FleX which I use Eyefinity with. I am able to sell this card for 280$ and now I wonder if it's worth it or should I continue using my 6950?
My motherboard does not support crossfire and I have a Corsair 750w 80+ Psu and I am not planning on upgrading the motherboard nor the psu for a while. I am not a big fan of driver problems etc etc and my 6950 is working absolutely perfect and I dont want any problems if changing to the 5970, or is it flawless?

I'm mostly playing world of warcraft and Gta IV in Eyefinity on x3 22"

Please help me out guys!

In terms of shader power the 5970 will slap your 6950 silly but as you use eye finity I reckon that the 5970 will become memory bound and will give you a poorer gameplay experience then the 6950.

You will get bottlenecked by the 1GB framebuffer of the 5970 in Eyefinity.

Thanks guys, really appreciated! So if I want to continue with my Eyefinity setup, I should definitely stay with the 6950 and if, I want a performance upgrade I should rather try upgrading my motherboard and go for crossfire?

It's 2 GB

Anyway, the 5970 is more powerful than the 6970. However, the 6000 series came with some crossfire improvements, and of course, the 5970 is a dual GPU card. I have heard of many people having issues with 5000 series micro stutter, not that I have had any issues.

All in all I'd say go for it.

5970 has 2GB total VRAM, but the ram is split between the two GPU's on the card. For this reason, the 5970 still only has a 1GB framebuffer.

It's not 2Gb

It's 1Gb per GPU core, Crossfire does not double up the amount of usable VRAM and it never has done.

If you had 3x GPU's with 4Gb VRAM each you would still only have 4Gb of usable VRAM despite having 12Gb on all 3 cards.

It's the same for SLI as well.

Both of my cards are 1GB and I have 2GB of usable video memory. I'm pretty sure it's the same on the 5970.
