[TT] Z68 vs. X58 - Which Is The Better Gaming Platform? - Page 4

well i dont know why but its pretty funny to me that they are testin a 6 core vs 4 core and then OCing one system to its limit and other to a normal OC beginners do

also if u wanna really see the true power of the 6 core then test some good video editing etc

i dont feel someone would buy a 1k$ cpu for gaming only

just my opinion

Wouldn't it have made more sense if they went clock for clock with quad cores?

X58 still has better discrete graphics support in multi-gpu setups
not impressed with the current offerings and am still very happy with my X58
waiting for the true X58 successor

I love how everyone is crying because one CPU is 4.2 and one is @ 5Ghz

how about this? one CPU is $1000 and the other is $300.

WHO would pay $1000 for a CPU when the $300 is in most cases better (for gaming)?

For the price of the 990X you could just build a whole 2600k system

Moving to a Z68 + 2600K rig if you've already got a high-end X58 setup is not worth it if the move is strictly for gaming, period.

If it's an upgrade to try something new, try to reach 5+ Ghz, etc., that's something entirely different...but for anyone making the upgrade thinking that you'll actually see a difference in your gaming performance, you're better off saving your money and waiting on Sandy Bridge-E hexacores or Ivy Bridge cause the difference just isn't there in terms of gaming performance.

Keep in mind too that the next series of Z68 boards will have 2 x16 PCIE lanes and PCIE 3.0

Not sure why anyone would buy an i7 980x extreme edition (or even a 2600K) just to play a few games on two GTX 580's. I saw this earlier and hoped nobody would post it because I knew that it would stir some people up (no offense to OP for posting it though).

I went from a Core2 dual core to my current rig. I don't plan to upgrade for a long, long time but if Ivy Bridge releases a 6-core processor, I'll probably go ahead and pick one of those up and just sell my i5. Otherwise, I don't plan to upgrade my CPU or motherboard for another 3 years or so.

i think u are not comparing apples to apples here

and to the guy who was saying something about 980x being 1k and all .People use that cpu for ther works also it would be very silly to buy a 980x for GAMING only

also what i wanna say is that the test aint equal coz 980x is not a GAMER cpu

i think they shold have tested a 920/950 @ a 4.0 coz thats what most people use it at and then OC the 2600k to 4.0 and test those and then test the 2600k @ 5.0 or higher clock and should have showed the difference then

i mean 1stly this test fails for me coz they have taken 980x for test and then labelled it as x58 vs Z68 ( beter in gaming)

its a lols for me
