Best $300-350 Point & Shoot camera? - Page 3

I went into Worst Buy today before going to work on a half day and compared the S95 and the Nikon 9100. I also noticed that there are a lot of point and shoot cameras that are VERY small and I love that. However, I am not willing to sacrifice excellent picture quality to get a tiny camera.

I compared both cameras for about 20 minutes while some cute blond Best Buy girl talked to me and shared her limited knowledge of the 2 cameras. I will share my noob concerns and first impressions in case there is someone out there in my situation who wants a great camera but doesn't know anything about them.

With the Nikon 9100, I found that I really like the larger screen. It was also much easier to use. It seemed to do a lot better on the fast "point and shoot" in rapid succession, but not on close shots. The size was right at the edge of what I would consider too big for my needs. It did feel OK in my hands, although the anti-theft mounts BB uses makes it impossible to tell this for sure. I did not test the zoom feature too much. It seemed to start up more quickly than the S95 only because the S95 has a quick Canon graphic that interrupts the boot-up process. If Canon did not have this picture, it would be impossible to tell which one boots up faster by just eye balling it.

The Canon S95 was small enough in width and height dimension to be more than acceptable. It was a bit thicker than I would like, but certainly better than the Nikon 9100 for overall size. Due to its small size I did not like the size of the screen. It seemed to do OK on quick point and shoot pictures, but it was hard to tell for me because of the smaller screen. When taking fast pictures one after another, it seemed to be better at close range than the Nikon 9100. But again, it was hard to tell because I was only looking at the 2 screens. I feel like the dial on the front is really silly and annoying. I would probably get used to it after I learned what it can actually do for me.

Overall, I am leaning more to the S95 because of its size and the recommendations so far. It will all depend on whether or not my buddy can get me a good price with his BB discount.
