Question on Integrated Graphics...

Thread Starter
I'm looking at the Lenovo G470 for an i5 laptop build.

I would have preferred a dedicated graphics solution and more RAM, but for $599 for 2nd Gen i5 laptop, I think that price point is pretty good.

Question I have is, I looked up the Intel 3000 integrated graphics rating and it rates below a 5570.

Anyone else have experience to say if this would be a huge issue for light gaming?

Thanks all.

Totally depends on what you want to play and how willing you are to tweak the game's settings so it's playable relative to your preferences.

I got borderlands to run pretty fluently on a laptop with that same processor at 1280x720 but there are some effects (can't toggle them on or off in the regular video settings) that still cause the intel 3000 to stutter. Would need to look further into disabling or substituting a lower quality effect (since its based on the UT3 engine it's quite configurable) but at any rate it's playable.

So in essence your light to medium gaming depending on what you consider playable, it's doable. GPU intensive games aren't though.

aye, tough decisions. FRYS also has a similar i5 setup for 459 today. But of course I have no FRYS near me.

You need to define "light gaming" for us.

The Intel HD 3000 graphics found in the mobile i5 is quite good compared to Intel's previous efforts. It will even do light gaming on modest settings. However, I still chose Optimus switchable graphics for my ThinkPad T420 --there are just some cases where I'd like a little faster GPU.

When I don't need the nVidia graphics though, it shuts down, and I save battery using the Intel onboard.

Get a good Fusion APU laptop. They all come with some dedicated graphics integrated into the APU.
