I wonder what the publishers think about it though. For a powerhouse like Activision/Blizzard who would normally get 100's of dollars out of an average player, and then suddenly the player is only paying $10p/m, and to a 3rd party as well? Would be pretty easy for them to cut GameFly out.
I think the next 5 years in gaming are going to be pretty interesting, I just hope it works out in the gamers favour.
Well, you have to remember that these companies aren't making much from PC gamers these days anyways, with the dwindling market due to consoles and piracy and all that. If gamefly is announcing this, I'm sure they already have deals set up with most of the big companies. They might even make more money from this than regular pc sales. I have no idea what deals are going on in the background, but I'm sure, at least for right now, all parties are satisfied. I can imagine someone like EA pulling out of this in the somewhat distant future, though.
Anyways, I'm Pretty psyched for this. It's an awesome deal, and if you're willing to deal with the fact that you lose all your games after you stop subscribing, it may even replace steam for some. That's stretching it though.Edited by AllyOmega - 8/13/11 at 10:27am
