Make My Own Proxy? Tunneling?

Thread Starter
Is there a software I can run on computer A, and then run the same software on computer B, and have any connections that come from B go through A first.

So basically, a proxy (or a VPN?) . But I would be switching to my OWN IP.

And of course, computer A and B are on different networks.

Pick up a Cat5 cable, setup a Network Bridge, and Zone Alarm would be what I would look at first.

(Need 2 NIC cards per PC, unless Computer A is wireless, then you can run the cable from Comp. A to Comp. B and Bridge that way.

EDIT - Also a VPN would be more than likely be needed, but with that being said it would have to be a multiple IP VPN.

With Linux it is possible to configure one PC to act as a router. The second PC could connect to the router. All data for second PC would come from the (PC-)router.
You will need two cards in the (PC-)router.
Isn`t an easy solution.

Now is this the same thing as SSH tunneling? Because someone said something about that, and that seemed a bit easier, however I was wondering if there's a better way.

If your computer A is running Linux, then SSH tunneling through it is the quickest/easiest option. Comp A runs OpenSSH or some other SSH daemon (which is often already installed). If comp B is Windows, it's dead easy to run PuTTY. Here's a guide. The pitfall is that any traffic you want to tunnel needs to support a SOCKS proxy (for web browsers that's no problem).

Edit: To clarify, a SSH tunnel is going to be a proxy running on your computer B (redirecting traffic through the SSH tunnel). The software's traffic that you want to tunnel will need to be connected to that local proxy (which then goes through the SSH tunnel through comp A).

If you want to tunnel all of your computer's traffic without changing any of your programs' settings, you'll want a VPN which is harder to setup. Can you tell us what operating systems are in play here?

Thanks a lot stolid.
It will be two Windows computers, so I might get PuTTY.
But hey, I don't even need the SSH part, because I dont care if its encrypted or not, I just need one computer to use the internet connection of another in order to have the same IP. If you understand what I mean.
How much harder is a VPN?
