Rasa Kit Questions

Thread Starter
After the success of my H70 in keeping the CPU cool, i've planed to go full water in the near future, after i upgrade a bit more.

I plan to get 2x 560 Ti's and full blocks for them (prolly on black friday), and upgrade to an i7 8xx, maybe even a mosfet cooler. I also plan to recycle this kit (just buy the appropiate mounts) for when Ivy and Kepler appear.

I'm considering buying a RX240 kit, and a RX120 rad, since i do not want anything hanging on the outside of my case, or if i have to put it outside, not to be that huge.

Also, from pictures, i see the CPU coldplate is not lapped (at least not mirror lapped).

For cooling, i plan to use plain distilled water and a kill coil.

For fans, my choice are undervolted (7v) Yate Loon Highs. Don't care about noise (my single slot 450's do more noise than most dual slot cards and i'm happy with them ) as long as the computer does not sound louder than my speakers (HTPC is the one that must be silent)

My questions are as follow:

- Will te 2 rads be enough to cool my upgraded rig? Also, how would the loop go if i do this setup?
- Does it bring any benefit at all to lap the CPU block, or is it good enough to use it like that?
- As everything is copper (or copper-nickel, idk if the fittings are nickel or aluminum), would i experience any corrosion? Or would i have to get copper/nickel fittings?
- Are compression fittings any good when compared to the traditional ones?
- Are my fan choices good enough? Or are the included fans any good?

Where will you mount the RX240? it might be too thick for up top inside.

I'd be mounting it inside fans>case>rad>outside fans at the top.

What i do not want is a big stick outside of my case, like i'd get if i mount a 360 rad (i'll try and mount the 120mm inside, at most only the second fan would go out)

I heard a 480 is pretty good for multi GPU., so i believe you can get away with even a 360 rad.

Don't take my word for granted tho, i is noob in watercooling.

If you meant to use a 120mm rad for CPU and GPU, it will not work, almost sure of that

A 120 rad will not even come close to handling the heatload of just the 480.

Anything less than an RX240 = no go.

Corrosion (galvanic) only occurs when you mix aluminum with copper. You will be fine (unless you use an aggressive chemical like Feser One in your loop)

Nah, i will not use any chemicals on my loop (the purer the better) and, as far as i know, everything is either copper (CPU and GPU blocks) or nickel (fittings?)

But no one has answered my question. Can a RX240 kit+RX120 handle the heat from 2 560 Ti's and a Nehalem i7, all OC'd?

To answer your questions:

1. I would say, yes, the RX240+RX120 will do fine. I had a MCR320 cooling an i7 980X @ 4.2GHz and two GTX 470s.

2. A decent CPU block shouldn't need to be lapped.

3. All copper is fine; copper does tarnish over time but it doesn't impact performance. Nickel is typically plated over copper for this reason. Just don't mix copper and aluminum (which you shouldn't have to worry about if you are purchasing the Rasa kit).

4. Compression fittings are good; easy to use and looks good. Barbs work fine as well, especially if you use 7/16 tubing over 1/2 barbs (it'll be a little tight but you won't need clamps).

5. I'd do push-pull with the YLs if you've enough space on both rads. I never used the included fans on my Rasa kit.
