Best ISP UK

Thread Starter
Hi, I'm moving into my student flat in a few weeks with some friends, and naturally we need super super fast unlimited internet. A couple of my friends, being students naturally are likely to download films and music (don't shout at me) ... so this rules the super fast 50mb Virgin ISP out as they don't allow such line use.

I was wondering what UK people on here would advise. Previously we were on our university network, which, I we regulary attain speeds of 10 megabytes a second, often a lot higher. Would be nice to get the same kind of service. Don't want to be paying to much though (sub 20 squid).

Thanks
Thomas

Not news

Edit: Although if you do find an ISP that will knowingly allow you to 'download music and films' then I will be surprised

Virgin Media is your best choice, because your requirement isn't valid
post #4 of 26
As above, posted in the wrong section, ask a Moderator to move it.

Otherwise Virgin Media.
Don't ask for too much money-wise though, if you want something to meet your expectations, expect to pay for it, not through the nose, but to pay for it.

You should get a good deal with them if you look around.

NO ISP allows that sort of use....

But unless you're completely stupid, they'll never bug you about using it for those purposes.

if you want anything under 20 mbits go with O2.

i used it for 2 years and had 19 mbits unlimited 24/7. for like 12 pounds
They give a nice discount if you get a mobile line with them too

by far the best!.

i recently moved and use a Virgin 10mbit package with is terrible and heavily throttled.
10am - 20am you have a allowance of full-speed access for the first 1.5gb

after you are throttled -75% to around 300kb/s. for 5 hrs

you can imagine downloading games on steam

I lived in a house of 5 guys and we streamed and downloaded stuff a lot. We got the top Be Unlimited package and had 0 problems. Fast, no throttling and great ping. Can't recommend it enough.

Sorry about posting in the wrong place. I did a quick scan of the message boards and I missed this sub forum. My bad.

I've read and heard virgin do complain, so I think they are out of the question. What about talk talk? I seem to recall they bought out/merged AOL uk.... AOL is notoriously bad, yes, but what would there speeds be like in London? I saw BE, £22 for pro. Hmmm No throttling though. Wonder if I can get them down to £20... "student discount"

I have faith in 98uk
