New FM1 Build, internet problems

Thread Starter
Last night, I finally put together my FM1 system. 3850 APU and Asus F1A75-V PRO mobo.

I can not for the life of me get internet to work on this machine. I have installed the mobo drivers that came with the board. I have hooked it up directly to my cable modem, I have tried just about everything on the sun. My other computers and devices on my network are working just fine.

I had also thought maybe my router hit the limit of how many devices can be used at 1 time. I turned everything off, restarted the router and modem countless times. And like I said, I hooked it up straight to the modem.

The computer will have internet access for about 1 minute after a reboot. Then it just goes away.

I installed an Ethernet checker thingy that came on the mobo CD. It detects the cable just fine. All the lights blink as they should. Not sure what else to try, other than a new motherboard.... That would be a total pain to RMA.

Thanks for the help

Still no luck, with drivers on the CD, from Asus and site and from the link you sent. All give the same problem.

Guys the first thing you ask is if the guy can ping localhost.

Dude open a dos box and type "ping localhost" or "ping 127.0.0.1"

This tells you if the adapter is even working in the first place.

uhh perhaps you have manual IP address and are not using DHCP and it has the wrong gateway IP?

Can you lease an IP from your DHCP server?

Why the hell do you have to do that dude!

That's as bad as a baby boomer luddite using MS Word, then printing out the draft and editing with a pen. Then retyping edit into word... owhh and then printing it as to then FAX it... <--- THIS IS A JOKE PEOPLE!!!

Perhaps it's the ethernet cable? does the link light turn off when it fails? At least then you'll now if it's working on the link layer. It could be the BIOS is setting the CPU multi/FSB wrong thus radically overclocking the PCI/PCIe bus. This can cause issues you describe and is 70% of the time the reason an onboard MAC PHY dies while the other 30% is cable shorts damaging the PHY/controller.
