Gpu Upgrade Advice

Thread Starter
My current system consists of an E8400 cpu, Gigabyte EP45-UD3P mobo, 512MB HD4870 gpu, and 4GB(2GBx2) G.Skill DDR2 1066 ram. What would be my best options for upgrading the gpu without having to worry about the cpu/mobo bottlenecking it. I can also get 4GB more ram if that is also recommended.

Thanks

I would say a 560 ti. It might bottleneck a little, but probably your best bet, or the ATi equivalent. No need for more RAM.

Good advice. Do you have your E8400 overclocked at all? Those can do 4ghz pretty easily with a cheap air cooler.

I attempted an overclock when i first built the system back in mid-2009, but never could get a stable setup. I haven't made any major attempts at it since then. I am confident I have more than adequate air cooling so that isn't a problem.

I would just go for a Crossfire setup. It'll give you the best performance for your money.
Look into getting an HD 4830, 4850, 4870, or 4890. Try to avoid Tri-fire since many games will have issues and it'd be a major bottleneck on your CPU.

If you want a single card, the best card for the money would be an HD 6850.

I also got a soft budget of about $185 if that helps.

Your system is definitely going to bottleneck a GTX560Ti, even if you overclock a bit. I would recommend a regular/factory overclocked GTX460 1GB. You can get a new one for ~$130, or used for ~$110. If you're lucky, you can pick up the MSI Cyclone GTX460 1GB from Newegg open box for $90, hell of a deal.

The GTX460 will give you significant improvement over your current card, especially if you buy one that is factory overclocked.

Edit: you can use the left over $$ from buying a GTX460 and buy a nice CPU cooler and overclock! Then your benefits will be doubled

560ti is too high for your CPU plus it cost's around 250$ so if you cant use it fully dont buy it ...
460 GTX is a better choice but in that budget you can buy 1 6870 like this one here http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102948 which beats the 460 by far.
