fraps. works with Windows 7 desktop too, so you can record in or out of a game.

To the best of my knowledge fraps does too, probably better that way since it only ties up 1 core while leaving the others for your game.

FRAPs is the best out right now. It's closest competitor is Bandicam. Playclaw is absolute crap in comparison.

FRAPs delivers the very best quality/framerate, but at a huge file size. For most of us, the file size isn't an issue. Bandicam allows you to record at certain resolutions without actually playing at said resolutions, and records in AVI 2 format for MUCH smaller file sizes...but it doesn't deliver near the quality or frame rate of fraps.
