Will my 500W power supply be ok?

Thread Starter
Hi, I'm new to all this but I'm attempting to understand how to do safe overclocks, I have been experimenting with my 1055t (95w model). I don't know if my power supply will be ok though. I am running the stock cooler the now. I have ordered the HAF 922 and be quiet! Dark rock pro, so that should give me good enough cooler to overclock this baby.
My computer specs are;
Mobo - MSI 880GM-E41
Ram - Kinston hyper x 1333mhz
1 tb 7200rpm hard drive
CPU - 1055T (95w like I said)
GPU - XFX Radeon 6870
PSU - Cooler master 500w silent pro

I haven't really seen many people use 500W power supplies. I am concerned because the HAF 922 has two big 200w fan and another smaller one. I also plan to overclock CPU and GPU once I get decent airflow, so obviously it will need more power. I just bought this cool modular power supply so I seriously hope I don't need to replace it.
I have no idea about how much power components use or anything like that so this might be a completely 'noob' question.

So it is the GPU which uses up most of the power? I plan on maybe adding a few more fans and a ram cooler too... The cpu cooler I'm getting has two big fans in it. Do fan's and the CPU even use up much power? Thank for the help.

At a minimum, I woudl recommend reading the Phaedrus Quick'n'Dirty PSU calculator for more info

No, most, but not all, have very little effect on power usage.
Thats until you get into the very high CFM Delta fans.

Most PSU's you see here are higher than they need, because it's best, for the power supply to use, at max, 70 to 75% of it. This will cause less stress, and cooler conditions, for your PSU.

If you have the money in the furture, it would be a good idea to upgrade to a nice 750 watt, or even a 850 watt PSU

Hope this helps.

That's great, thanks for the help everyone. I think overclockers.net is growing on me Phaedrus quick'n'dirty PSU guide was really helpful.
Now just to install my new case and CPU cooler and get over clocking! I managed to get my CPU upto 2.5Ghz but prime95 was 'sketchy'
