Laptop and HDMI External Display

Thread Starter
Ok I have a problem with my laptop. I have it connected to a external 1080p Display with the laptop lid closed.

Now when I restart the laptop, it goes back to its orginal resolution which is 700 and somthing pixels, which is annoying. In order for me to set it back to the orginal 1080 rez. I have to open and close the laptop to get it to go back how I want it. it does this everytime I restart, and when I restart the computer and go choose a resolution by going tot he desktop and right clicking, there is the only option for the laptop screen and not the external monitor, unless I open and close the laptop....

This only does this when its connected via HDMI, it wont do this VGA

Hmm...I don't know if this will help, but it might...

I do the same thing with my laptop. The only time I use its' screen is when I'm out and about. At home and at work, I just keep it closed with an external (21.5" at work, 46" Samsung at home), both at 1920x1080. The resolution of the laptop is different (I can't tell right now, because it's closed ).

When I set it up, I had the laptop open and the external hooked up. I used the display options key (like F4 or something) to select presentation mode only, which blacked out my laptop screen and left the external screen on. I then shut down the laptop, closed the lid, then powered it back on.

Now, all I do when I get to work or home is plug in my HDMI cable and turn it on. However, if I open the lid, the laptop screen will also come on (all resolutions stay fine). But, if I close the lid, it puts the laptop to sleep (how I have it set). Then I have to start all over.

I hope this helps...I know I didn't explain it very well, but it works for me...
