You don't need any cable adapter. The female end of the PWM cable is keyed (notched) to fit the 3 pin on the controller. Just curious though, why are you connecting it to the controller?

Well actually idk? Is it wierd to attach those to a fan controler?

Not weird at all, just curious what is it you are trying to do?

3/4 pin fan headers are compatable with eachother

You do not need that cable.

However, the 4-pin connector of the Gelid Y-splitter cable cannot be directly inserted into a 3-pin header of the fan controller because the 4-pin connector has 2 guides (see orange arrows in pic 1) which the tongue (see pic 2) of the 3-pin header does not fit.

Solution: simply use a shaver blade or cutter to shave away the 2 guides. Then, the 4-pin header can fit in easily.

Edit 1:- On a closer examination of my Gelid cable, it seems it might fit in without the shaving. So, just try it.

3 and 4 pin fan connectors have the same key locations
they will work unless you have a hooded 3 pin male connector and a 4pin female connector

is your fan controller for 4pin fans, or 3pin?

if its 4pin pwm, then it uses 12v for the fans (this y cable will be fine)

if its 3pin, the fan controller lowers the 12v for the fans to control the speeds and this cable wouldnt let your fan controller slow it down

Ok, if your case fans have 3 pin you can connect direct to the fan controller. Any 4 pin (PWM) fans you can use the PWM splitter and connect that to the fan controller. If other than the above type, like 4 pin molex you will need a molex to 3 pin adapter to connect to the fan controller.
