Ultrasone HFI 580's are a good choice, a little above your budget but they are awfully comfortable and sound great out of the box and even better after they get broken in.

Taste is very varied. Instrumental rock, hip hop, instrumental hip-hop, electronic.

Senn 280's and Shure SRH440 are looking good atm.
