I have had an 4-8gb page file on one of my 40GB SSD's since I got it. It has seen 367.1 days of use and has written 6.1TB. At that rate it is only going to last another 50 years or so before the NAND starts to die out.

Even if the pagefile really did wear out a SSD a lot faster, it would only do so while the pagefile was actually being used. Many people with 8+ GB of RAM don't even have a pagefile. That's how often it gets used.

But there are a few select programs that will not run without a pagefile, no matter how much RAM you have (so I've read). So I keep mine just in case. I just keep it small.

Nah. If it's there, Windows uses it preemptively.

Some people suggest using a larger pagefile on SSDs so Windows swaps out data less. But then you're wasting space...

I usually keep mine completely off. You just need enough RAM that you never run out, because stuff starts crashing when you do.

No. One pagefile is all that's required for one OS.

Should be fine. Just don't run out of RAM.

Don't worry, your SSD won't be alive in 50 years. The PCB and other chips will die well before 20 years are up.

And NAND doesn't last forever. Regardless of whether you write/erase it or not, it's aging, and eventually it'll crap out.

I'll turn it on if I encounter one that requires it. But the only one that I've encountered so far was a game - Titan Quest. There's probably more, but it really isn't that common.

Would keep it on the SSD and i would not even worry about the whole drive wear thing because you will most likely be replacing the drive long before you reach the flash wear out. (Think of the guy who wrote over 900TB to his X-25 and is still running)

Some programs are very fussy about having a pagefile and will not run/work properly without one no matter how much ram you have. Start at 1 GB, if you have less then 8GB of ram and start to notice issues, increase the size of the pagefile.

I know that some people move their pagefile off to another drive that have a very small SSD to conserve space which is fine.

I moved mine. 8gb of RAM 120gb Agility 3 but I was getting PF related BSODs about once every 6 hours. Once I moved it to a physical drive everything was more reliable. No noticeable performance loss. Benchmarks don't notice it nor do games so I figure I'm fine.

Keep it on the SSD and shrink it to 1GB or even less but don't disable it completely. Optimal choice.

with 4 gig of ram i would haveing page file enabled. my system just can not handle it. and i do get bsod.

i have the windows default page fileing size. it will work. also if your ssd lasts for 10 years then that is brilliant as by then, new faster bigger and more reliable ssd's will be out by then by at least half the price of wht we bought ours for in the last few months and years.

also i am not strapped for space on my ssd as i have a 120 gig so i also do not have to stress about a 4 gig page file that can be used for porn or somehting
