Best Netbook $450 or less with HDMI?

Thread Starter

Hi. My uncle was originally looking at the Toshiba Thrive, until we figured out that 1080p out was choppy. Basically, he wants something small where that he can take to work for some basic web browsing and MS office use. But, he also wants it to be able to plug into his home theater system when he gets home, with 1080P and at least 5.1 audio output (better yet 7.1), so he can use it as a sort of makeshift HTPC. It has to be small and portable, because remember, he was originally looking at a tablet. His budget would probably be around $450. Here is my idea, feel free to edit and/or completely change it:

Acer Aspire One AO722-BZ454

+

4GB ram
+

Seagate Momentus XT 500 GB
(So it will be zippy )

Basically what I am asking is, would it be better to get a more expensive notebook, or a cheaper one and upgrade it?

Well the C-50 isn't going to be the fastest thing in windows. If you can spare the money go for something with the E-350.

i have the acer aspire 522 with radeon HD 6250 graphics

its a c-50, but you should spring for one with a e-350, people say intel has more performance, but for then netbook market, the amd APU's dominate

Hmmm. I don't know, that ThinkPad only has 1 gig of ram, a 250gb harddrive, and it is a single core. With that target deal, I can get 4gb of ram, 1.0ghz dual core, and a Seagate Momentus XT 500 GB for the price of the Thinkpad. What do you guys think?

PS: I've heard people say that the c-50 is faster than the intel D525, is that true?

PPS: Do you think the Seagate Momentus XT is worth it?

HP DM1Z for sure. I ordered mine and it arrives tomorrow!

$400 for E-350 and a really nice looking netbook. Plays 1080p video like a dream, and light gaming is even possible.

Btw forgot to mention, 3GB of RAM, feature in the BIOS which lets you re-install windows with no bloatware, Windows 7 64 bit, and 10 hours of battery life.

Does he really need an E-350 though? He isn't a gamer, and the most intensive program he is going the run on that thing is probably MS office and chrome. I don't know, I just think the Momentus XT is better than a faster clock speed (in this situation).

The C-50/60 chops up. I wouldn't get anything less than a E-350 if you want to do 1080p video playback.
