HD 6950 or GTX 570 for 1920x1080?

Thread Starter
One of my two GTX 460s poopered out on me (melting down...)

I have to RMA it. When I get the replacement card, I'm thinking about selling both my 460s for either an HD 6950 or a GTX 570. I can't keep the replacement GTX 460 for SLI because while all this was going on, my on-board sound was damaged somehow, and I was forced to occupy the PCI slot directly below my second PCI-E slot with a new sound card.

From what benchmarks I've seen, the HD 6950 performs almost the same as the GTX 570 at 1920x1200 (my resolution is 1920x1080).

The GTX 570 is more expensive. I realize that. But if it will get me more frames per second... that's OK.

IRCONFUS. is the GTX 570 worth the extra moneys?

Definitely the 570 for 1920x1080 thumb.gifbut if you can find a 6950 that can be unlocked, that would be the better choice IMO. I just like the fact I can game using 3 displays with a single AMD gpu. For that, you can not beat the cost, especially if it can be unlocked.

Agree with drBlahMan. GTX570 is the better performer at that resolution, but a unlocked 6950 would give very close performance for less $$.

Depends, nearly all benchmarks show that the 570 actually beats the 6970 at 1920 x 1080 for single card. Note a few things:

1. Going single card will be a considerable performance downgrade, you're going from gtx 580+/hd5970 performance down.

2. Might wanna RMA the mobo. The gtx 460 sli is quite amazing.

3. The 6950 in crossfire is either equal to or much above a 570 sli.

4. Just keep one 460. Sell the other if you dont want to RMA your mobo

I can always remove my PCI wireless adapter if I want to do SLI in the future. For now I want to stick to a single card solution.

I am a very happy 1920x1080 gamer on a single 6950 thumb.gif I would recommend the card regardless of unlock capability or not. They clock very well on air cooling alone for daily use.

get a new motherboard IMO

460 SLI > single card

I say there are both not worth it... I play at 1920x1080 with my GTX 560 @ 850Mhz just fine...
Keep one GTX 460 and OC it if you should need a little more power... or sell both and get a HD 6950.
