Use a good firewall (the Windows Firewall has always worked fine for me, but you could try Trend Micro Internet Security) and try to make all your connections go through SSL.. out of habit now, I make all my accounts forced through SSL (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) Beyond that, I suppose you could look for a VPN solution.
