Fan Suggestions for CM 690 II Advanced

Thread Starter
I'm just about to change my case from CM Elite 335 to the 690 II Advanced. I am interested in adding a few LED fans to the case, but, at the same time do not want to compromise on FAN performance & Quietness.

Please provide some recommendations on 120/140mm fans for the 690. I currently have 1 Noctua NF-P14 FLX 140mm that I'll resume in the 690, but it does not have any LEDs.

Also, what would be the best FAN configuration for the 690, to provide the best air cooling?

I'd recommend getting the case and living with it for a time. You are getting a superb case.

Then look through the various items in my sig, especially the one on choosing good cases for air cooling. That came to include a discussion on how best to ventilate a case. We had some great discussions there.

I have that case, It's great, I have some X-Silent fans from Thermalright (120 and 140) they're excellent fans, super quiet and have holes to put leds

If sound is a concern stick to Scythe GTs, Noctuas etc., if not buy some fast spining ones.....like the new series of Gentle Typhoons

I myself have the 690 II Basic which has 2 x 120mm fans and i added 1x140 mm Noctua on the top above the CPU blowing hot air outside. In the future i'll buy a Noctua NH-U12P SE2 and i will use 1 of the fans on the bottom to blow air towards the video card....and if it doesn't help maybe i'll mount it on the side panel and see if it works better that way.

Stock configurantion of the 690II yields mediocre results so adding a few fans will mprove things alot. I would recommend taking out the HDD cage if u don't need more than 2 HDDs....

Also as a general idea have an equal amount of fans intaking and exhausting air and play around with the CFM to see which setup satisfies you. There is no standard, works for everybody, setup as there are many types of cases out there so don't be afraid to experiment.

Pay some attention to the wire management (route all the cables to the back) and later down the road put dust filters on the cut-outs of the side panels.....

I must say i have mixed feelings about the 690 II, for example i dislike the stock fans since they are pretty weak, the space behind the mobo tray is not as big as i hoped, the HDD caddies do not stop the virbrations from my HDD, the top plastic panel when removed it comes off with all the I/O cables, i hate that the PSU dust filter is not removable from outside.....

But i do like the width of the case which allows for the installation of the biggest air coolers. i like the possibility to mount a lots of fans, i like the WM cut-outs, i like the fact that it has dust filters for the front bezzel, the bottom fan cut-out and the PSU, i like the look of it (altough in the first day i unboxed it i didn't know whether i like the design or not). I also like the attention to details that CM gave, like the box wrench for installing the standoffs.

For me the CPU cut-out was not big enough, i have a AM3 board....

I have been reading all your posts and I must say, fantastic work on air cooling.
I'm now almost certain to setup the air flow as you've done, image attached from your work.

But, I'm planning to use the H100 as the CPU cooler, and attach the radiator across the top dual fan slot, as intake. Your thoughts?

Also, I need a quiet system, so, would the stock fans on the H100 be noisy? If so, can I replace them with any other quiet (preferable LED) fans, suggestions welcome. I still need the cooling of the H100, but with quieter fans, if stock ones are noisy.

My OC won't be more than 4.3-4.5 Ghz, so, I would be glad with a few suggestions for quiet 120mm/140mm fans (with LED) for the 690 II.

I would suggest not using the H100. D-14 or silver arrow are silent, and cool better. I use the silver arrow and LOVE it. I also have my case set up like elume suggests and wow, positive pressure with no exhaust +silver arrow is an OC'ers dream!

For fans in the 120mm size Scythe GT 14/15, for a 140mm fan the TY-140(silver arrow's stock fans) are AMAZING.

It seems OP wants LED fans. Personally idk any good one.

This may sound shocking but Coolermaster has an LED version of the R4, good little fans. Also Antec's LED 120mm fans are good. in my experiance LED fans tend to suck(airflow to noise ratio), thats why I'm going to mod my non LED fans with LED's at a later time
