60fps normal with a 460 768MB on BF BC2 at 1920 x 1080?

Thread Starter
I today discovered that Afterburner has a frame per second monitoring, so I selected my usual game overclock: 850 Core/1700 Shader/2000 Memory.

My system:

i5-760, stock cooler, +5Mhz overclock when gaming
4GB 1,333Mhz RAM
MSI GTX460 Cyclone 768MB OC edition

I looked at the log file and saw 60 frames per second, which is roughly twice what I was expecting!
Temperatures didn't seem too high either; 50C max for CPU, and about 34C max for the GPU.

I had all max settings on resolution (1920 x 1080, 8xMSAA, 16xAF).

Am I reading/doing something wrong?
Not that I'm complaining... what a great little card that is either way

Sounds about right, I get about 70-80 frames with my 5850, 850 core 1200 mem

Get fraps and monitor your framerates and check your GPU tempertures with MSI Afterburner or GPU-Z. 34 C for GPU under load doesn't make sense unless it's watercooled.

I didn't notice this, good point

Thanks for the tips. I downloaded Fraps and played for a small hour...

And then realised I'd forgotten to enable the benchmarking. DOH.

However I had the FPS displayed on screen and it never went below 40, which is still higher than expected. Next time I'll make sure to enable temperature logging too to make sure I'm safe.
The OCing is holding nicely though. 8xMSAA isn't too bad for such a small card at this resolution I feel!

Wierd... I'm getting between 80-100 FPS on BFBC2 with the build in my sig. Much slower card to...

You're not getting DX11 either.

OP: My question is what do your minimums look like? Average of 60 but a minimum of 30 is still "ugh." Also, I highly doubt a fully loaded card in at 34C.

Ok I ran the fraps benchmark while monitoring with Afterburner.

Temp still shows as 34C for the entire game duration (BC 2 again) and I got a min of 51, max of 60 and average of 55.37.

Good news I guess. I also am very surprised at how cool the card is...I'll try with GPU Z next time, see if I can monitor the temp for a bit.

Ok finally got the temp monitoring working ok.

I reach 52 degrees C max when gaming with the above settings, and I don't go below 30fps with an average closer to 45.
Fan speed is never above 63% so I could probably get higher speeds/lower temps.

This is a lot better than I expected with this wee card..!
