No, official firmware only takes a few seconds. DD-WRT Micro is a pretty lengthy process.

What advantage would DD-WRT micro give me over the stock firmware besides bandwidth tracking? Anything that might improve performance in particular?

It took me a total of around 10 minutes to complete the whole process and it fixed my dropped connections which I dreaded oh so much...

Is your firmware verison 1.02.8 by any chance? >_>

I wouldn't flash kernel 2.6 firmware into that older MIPSR1 processor in the WRT-54 variants. They run much better on kernel 2.4 builds as in HUGELY better!!!

This is the BEST of the 2.4 builds around for that particular hardware and it's based on Tomato not DD-WRT.

This version guarantees WAN-LAN 80Mb throughput. <-- INCREDIBLE considering it's MIPSR1!!!

This version I've been using for YEARS and I've seen uptimes of over a YEAR and it's RAF with ND on K2.4.37

Any of you DD-WRT users here on WRT-54g variants should serious try these firmwares as you will be blown away by the difference in performance.

The factory firmware is just total GARBAGE

PS People need working UPnP these days and Brainslayer's UPnP daemon is **** and doesn't work properly half the time.
