I noticed on the box, direct cooling onthe SB and NB, they both stay under 40c and I don't get weird lockups and skips. I had skips and lockups in the case, wasn't the possible shorting causing that.

About repasting and what not, I'm not sure it would really help? I touch the heatsinks and they still burn my finger so I wouldn't think it's the heatsinks not working or seated right, as they still get hot enough to burn my finger and the hyper 212 feels cold XD

Probably - South Bridges usually control IDE/SATA stuff.

Asus support will gauge on the phone what level of competence you have. If they perceive you as having little competence they will do anything to get outta a warranty commitment. And it's understandable considering how many JeffKs are damaging hardware and filling landfills with e-waste.

I suggest OP you purchase this book.

Upgrading and Repairing PCs
Seriously..did you write this book because you are advertising it everywhere.

I know of no other way to give the knowledge to people like the OP so they don't do silly things like this guy has...

And no I didn't write the book!

And hey OP... I'm really sorry to tell ya but that board is now DAMAGED... trying to get it to work properly at this point is just shear masochistic torture! You'll drive yourself crazy trying to get it to work and you'll never figure out what the problems are because it's various hardware components on the board that are DAMAGED. Try to RMA it.... it's your only hope outside buying another motherboard.

Could you also share pictures/example of others placing static bags behind the the mobo on a bench test. They should be informed that what they are doing is... UNWISE

Well do it like everyone else on here does, post the help/knowledge that's requested and quit shoving a newbie book at people. It can be taken as offence and I dont think it's right.

Um again this doesn't help dude... Damaged or not, it was damaged before. And right now it's working perfectly and better than it was in the case it seems. No lockups, skips or freezes. NOTHINGG. So I'm guessing the SB gets crazy hot some reason, when itw as in the case, and HDDs screw up because of it. The fan directly on it helps to make it run normally.

From the start, it's been damaged, it's been tried to RMA. ASUS support lied to me and when I was about to send it they said it's out of warranty even though a day ago they said they'd repair it. But there is lots more wrong with the baord than the crazy SB temps

I wouldn't run any other stuff in that board, after you said one of the caps is black + the other problems i'd remove my GPU/CPU, HDDs etc and just get another board you'll end up forking out for a complete new system rather than just a new mobo.

Never heard or done this before i never run a mobo until its in a case just my opinion

I'm guessing the OP watched the Newegg video on how to build a pc, since it tells people to do it this way (I don't agree). But the OP skipped the part about not using the anti-static bag under the mobo.

Just a guess.

Why are we still on this? Why do people think the motherboard is just gonna explode and kill everything? lol. That rarely happens...

Thanks for the advice though, the only thing I"m still wondering is the issue with hard drives. Because lately they haven't been screwing up at all.
