Hard drive works and then stops?

I have this drive with data from a computer that I reinstalled windows 7 to. It used to be an external drive, but it was messing up and not working properly so I removed it from the case and plugged it into my computer as an internal drive. The drive works from boot up, and I can read it and access the files. But after about a minute the drive stops working and I have to restart the computer to even get it to spin the platters. Is there anything I can do besides send it to a data recovery service? I have tried it in both of the computers and it will only be read by mine and only for a handful of seconds. Any suggestions?

don't use it as a boot drive?

if you have data on it, get what's important while you still can.

Why on earth would you use it for anything you want to keep? Try the freezer trick in any case. Expect it to be non functional.

It started to fail right after I had gotten all the data off and wiped the computer. I just tried it again and got it to work for about 5 min. I wrote down the model number while I could:

RMA it but since you removed it from the encloser... you pretty much voided your warranty.

I would just go get it recylced and buy a new drive.
