Should I grab another 460?

Thread Starter
There's a really good deal on the PNY gtx 460 OC XLR8 for $158 after taxes. Should I grab another to SLI with my 460 hawk?

The only thing I know about it is that it comes with limited lifetime warranty.

Here are the things I want to know:
Is the cooler effective?
Is the cooler quiet?
Does it overclock well?
What is the total power draw of my system with it?
Is PNY a good brand?

It's a reference cooler and the maximum overclock depends much more on the actual chip instead of the cooler. The reference coolers are great, my EVGA reference card destroys my DCII in overclocking and is quieter.

Unless you're incredibly unlucky you can get a just about any GTX 460 to 850 core.

The total power draw with overclocking for your system is 500-600W. I'm guessing around 500W but either way your PSU is more than sufficient.

PNY has been around forever and has a US number you can call.

Hi, although I don't own the MSI 460 or the PNY iirc you'd have to downclock your HAWK to what the PNY has as it's settings (unless you could OC the PNY to the hawk's or just find a middle ground that works). So you may just want to think about buying another MSI GTX 460 HAWK.

That's all my input is really, also your PSU should work fine with it, I use 2 Galaxy GTX 460's 768mb mind you, and a 550W psu and IIRC benchmarks showed the reference nvidia card was about 250 load (for one 1gb card). Suprising as **** that I'm even able to manage mine on my psu.

edit: why not just get a second HAWK anyway? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127518

ive heard HAWKs going at 1ghz core clock oc (obviously SLI you'd heat up badly), PNY i doubt that much. Your HAWK is an amazing card.

No.

Buy the Hawk if you like to waste money and want a fancy looking card that may or may not perform better than the PNY.

I second this. I bought my second Hawk 3 weeks ago (When it was 25 bucks more after rebate, errr...) for my SLI config... SLI GTX 460 is a beautiful thing.
