Also what would be better for the O.S. I have vista 64 bit not being used and xp pro laying around. all my computers at home are running windows 7 64 bit

If you want to administer servers as a job, it's never a bad idea to learn to manage a Linux server.

If, however, this is just a hobby type thing, Windows will probably work well enough.

I am actually starting college fir computer network tech and network security next week. Don't know why I didn't think of Linux I think I will go with Linux thanks
