Soundcard too hot Xonar STX wedged between 2x 6970 CF - Page 3

I agree with Kratthew D. Kraids that zip tying a fan to the hdd cage to blow air between the cards would work well. I have a 135mm Scythe Kama Flex zip tied to my hdd case to blow air into my video cards and I maintain pretty good temps even under full load while F@H.

thats exactly what i was thinking!!

which fan do you recommend? also the quiter the is it will be better !

thanks!

If you are worried about your temps, you need to get a fan on your side panel blowing in on your cards, and that would solve your issue.

Flip the top fan to exhaust upwards, and turn the radiator to intake as well. You'll bring in cooler air for the H70, which will be sucked out through the top, and it shouldn't effect either 6970.

Depending on how powerful the side-panel fan is (probably very weak, no matter how big it is), you could set a fan on your PSU to blow air between cards and cool down your STX as well. If it's on a desk, mount a 120mm sucking air up to the bottom card, if it's on carpet, forget about it.

Add a bottom intake and side panel intake fan. You might have to install something like MSI Afterburner and create a more aggressive fan curve. It will be louder though. Two 6970's release a lot of heat.
lol as much as you like at your hardware, I know I do too, having the side panel off won't really do much for airflow. There really isn't a way to channel the air without that barrier there to guide it. If you want to mount a fan to blow directly on your cards get a silverstone air penetrator fan, direct airflow FTW.

am planning on buying a fan to mount on the ahrd drive cage to blow air onto the Soundcard/GPUS!

i was wonderin should i get a 140mm or 180mm fan size?

the fan at the top of the case and on the bottom right of the case in my previous pic are 200 mm so am thinking 180 mm will do the trick?

Crossfire or Not, Reference card always INTAKE on the side panel.

If you have Non-ref on both, EXHAUST on the side panel.

If you have Non-Ref + Ref (like me), EXHAUST. Top card is Non-ref. The bottom Ref will sucks air from the bottom case fan anyway. I completely reduce the heat by 20'C and fan speed by about 15% less noise from the ref. It was quieter during my gaming session. With this setup both of my cards sit at 70-75'C average.

The old setup was 95'C top card (Ref) and 70'C bottom (Non-Ref).

Your setup will still be hot around 80'C if you have INTAKE which allows more fresh air into the GPU fans.

It wouldn't hurt to flip that 200mm top fan to exhaust air. If you can physically feel the case is hot your ambient temps have to be crazy high.

ive bought a gentle typhoon to replace the red LED fan i have on my cpu heat sink.

ill put that lef fan at the bottom of the case to intake air and push it into the bottom gpu,

ill also connect a 180mm silverstone air prenator to the hard drive cage and have that drive air down both the GPU's!

hopefully that shud fix it!
