If you can live with a 15.6 I just bought this past week.
Great Spec's

* Intel 2nd Generation Core i5 - 2410M
* 15.6" HD (1366 x 768 pixels) LED backlight, 220 nit, 16:9 aspect ratio
* 4GB DDR3 Memory, 750GB HDD Storage
* NVIDIA Geforce GT555M Discrete Graphics, 1GB Dedicated DDR5 VRAM
* SRS Premium Surround Sound audio enhancement with JBL designed

There is no throttling

Looks sweet but it's too big. I have a 16in laptop and thats what I am trying to get away from carrying around. It is fast but taking it to work, or keeping it out of the sun in my car is an uber pain. My netbook does well because I can stuff it under the seat and it stays relatively cool.

Either that Acer TimelineX or the M11x. IMHO, I would go with Alienware.

Taking into consideration that it is around $300 more as well as has a smaller screen, why would you recommend it over the TimelineX?

Alienware is a higher quality than Acer and you can get an i7 with 2GB 540M. I'm not saying Acer is crap, they have really excelled in the past years.
post #15 of 37

They have an option for the M11x @ $1200 -

i7 2617M
6GB 1333Mhz RAM
500GB 7200RPM HDD
Centrino 6250 WiFi card
2GB GT 540M

The compare that to these specs for the Acer.

I am going to suggest the M11X. That Acer won't come close to the performance you can get out of a M11X for gaming. The GTX smokes the GT. Acer Aspire TimelineX product page shows all the old series CPU's although I did find a weak i7 on a google search. They might be the best thing Acer has made, but I use an Acer right now and it has had all sorts of issues.

If you get the M11X, clean install windows on it and try to get drivers outside of Dell. Doing all of that made my M15X work a hundred times better. Make sure you open it up every 6 months and clean it out. The fans are powerful and pull in a lot of outside debris.

GTX spanks GT.
i7 SB spanks the old i7 mobiles.
Get the extended warranty if you can. This should last you a while. Dell is not too bad with fixing or replacing them.

I cannot find anything else that comes close at that size screen. Just an FYI, Newegg has an i7 timeline, but it is an old and slower i7 for $850.

Both the M11x and Acer have a GT 540M.

If the config options provided by NuclearSlurpee are correct I personally would spend the extra 300 for it, faster hard drive, faster/more ram, and more vram in the M11x along with that the laptop looks great. Also if you didn't know there is a military and student discount, I was looking at a M17x through aafes and the discount knocked $513 off my $2333 build (military dependents can use this discount also). If you don't qualify for one of those discounts you can always order by phone and haggle with them since last time I checked they work off commission. There's a website that listed about 10 ways to get discounts on alienware computers I'll see if I can find the link for you.

the timeline is faster. even after correcting throttling, it still run 1.9GHz, which i think is still faster than the m11x
