As long as MIR is cool, then obviously go for a 6870 or similar. This opens up the playing fields. Do you have 180$ up front?

Might want to go refurbished with that budget. You can get an EVGA GTX 560 for $150.

I'd definitely grab the 6870 if you have $180 to pay for it. After rebate, it's the best deal for the price. Unless you want to grab a used card of course. That opens a lot of options. You can check out the trading forum we have here. You can also try your luck at the $110 465 on the EVGA B-Stock and hope it unlocks to a 470. I wouldn't recommend buying a 560 non-TI.

I was thinking of the SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 6850 or the HIS Radeon HD 6790, to be honest.

With the amount I have on-hand they seem to be the best choices. Is there really a noticeable difference between the two when it comes to what I'd be using it for?

Why not try getting a used card? You might be able to get a 460 or 560 used (if you're lucky)
