It helps a lot! But your party members will still sometimes derp and it isn't absolute for every situation. Good suggestion for the OP as well, though.

I don't know about PC version but the PS3 version had a nice money glitch, having lots of money isn't game breaking it just seems more fair considering the prices of some of the vendor gear and lack of places to get money outside the main paths.

Cold spells are your friend.

Master herbalists can make Potent Lyrium Potions and sell them for a 20 silver profit each. The bartender in the Gnawed Noble bar in Denerim has unlimited supplies of all ingredients except for lyrium dust, which can be purchased in unlimited quantity from the mage's tower.

Persuasion is the most important skill in the game. Max it ASAP.

Agreed - if you're struggling early on it's probably from lack of potions/healing. Are there particular fights you're having problems with like the first ogre or the night attack on redcliffe village? My recommendation like others would be to go get wynn asap. If you have difficulty getting to wynn without a healer, throw one of morrigans talents into the first heal, and that should carry you until you get wynn. Always pause frequently to make sure targets are set right, that your tank is tanking and that your dps's are damaging that target, and crowd controlling other targets.

Strategic pausing is an absolute MUST especially when you start ramping up the difficulty. Many of the boss fights actually remind me a lot of WoW raid encounters...with the first ogre fight, for instance, when you see him raise his arms up then you know he's getting ready to do that close range aoe attack and you need to IMMEDIATELY pause the game and get your guys out of melee range. After he pounds his fists down then you can run back in and continue to attack.

I am just a big noob at this game! I didn't know how to use the "special moves" button at the bottom of the screen. Now that I figured that out I am doing better in battles. I actually got passed the first Ogre. I must admit, this game has me addicted. Great story line and graphics are superb. I kind of want to start the game over now that I got the hang of it.

I have no clue about potions and mixing herbs or if I can combine items as well.

Well if you feel like you want it just a little more raw and a shade darker try the Witcher series, 1 is good but 2 is better.

DA2 is meh, a bit of a let down. They took out too much of the good things that made Origins great, it's still good but it's like putting your headliner up before the opening bands~.

Bah, that's too bad, I am really enjoying dragon age. I'll still buy DA2 though. I heard DA3 will combine the gameplay of Origins and DA2. Seeing this is my first RPG it just took a while to learn the mechanics. I will try the Witcher series but I think Dragon Age is going to take me a while to finish.

I've been using the pause button all the time to win. I still haven't figured out how to use the tactic menu. Finally got the best sword in the game at Soldier's Peak which has helped.

If you've got DLC, try playing as a sword&board warrior with Blood Dragon armor and the starmetal sword and templar shield from Soldiers Peak. Just walk through the game, since you are pretty much invincible.
