Graphics card causing computer not to post

Thread Starter
I am at my wits end. I am installing a new 5450 in an old computer for a HTPC. I have previously used this graphics card and plugged it in another computer to verify it works. No problems.

When I installed it in the new computer, the computer will not even post. I tried another nvidia graphics card that I had lying around and that one booted up no problem. But when I put the 5450 back in it will not work.

Any ideas? I have uninstalled the old drivers and used driver sweeper. I set the priority in the bios to boot from pci-e. Nothing seems to help. Thanks in advance.

It might just be an incompatibility with the motherboard and video card. I had a problem where a 5450 would work on one motherboard but lock up in another one. A 5770 worked well on both boards. Puzzling.

That is odd. Any idea as to why this happened? I guess I will try a gt 520 or something like that.

I'm not sure why. If your Dell has onboard video, sometimes that could interfere. It could be that the 5450 is such a low profit margin card, they do not do enough QA to test for compatibility.

Yep, probably incompatibility. But if you could tell the MOBO exact name then it would be helpful, another thing might be your PSU. Does your card's fan start to spin? But that is probably a no go because it is so low end card which needs like 1,5W LOL:D

I can check the motherboard when I get home. I am at work now. It is not the PSU because it works fine if I take the card out and other more demanding graphics cards boot up just fine with this PSU. The 5450 is a fanless card so that is out. Like I said the 5450 does work in other computers. I am thinking it is a incompatibility issue as well. Thanks for all the input.
