Ok I know this has been debated before but my situation is a little different. I have about a month to go before I get home from summer vacation in Afghanistan (lol) and I will be building a new rig when I get home. I was originally planning on waiting for Bulldozer to go with the ASUS Crosshair V Formula. But with the newly rumored delay (again) it's doubtful that it will be available when I get back.

So now I'm debating on sticking with the Crosshair V (love that board) and getting the 1100T to go in it for now, or scrapping the AMD plan and going with the tried and true 2500K with an EVGA Z68 SLi board. Both setups cost $430 total right now on Newegg.

I do plan to overclock, so overclocking ability is a selling point. I've read very good things about the 2500K in this regard. I plan to cool the CPU with an Antec Kuhler H2O 920.

I'll be using the rig for gaming (MW3, Dirt 3, BF3, Rage, and Portal 2) and Blu-Ray movie watching along with a little photo editing and CAD work. I've already got 16 GB of Corsair Vengeance memory, a Corsair 120 GB SATA III SSD, and one (of a planned 2) EVGA GTX 560 TI DS video card. Also have a Corsair HX850 PSU.

Thanks in advance for any input!

If its between the 1100T and a SB, go for the SB. We have no clue what BD has in store for us, so can't comment about that.

Grab a Sb setup if you have no parts of either side right now. Sb will be good for a while, and the socket 1155 board will support Ivy bridge when released next year so you can still upgrade. SB kills a Thuban, and Im afraid the best we can expect from Bulldozer is SB like performance.
SB kicks AMD's butt in all catagories. fantastic overclocker as well. you will not be disappointed! and the 1155 socket is futureproof as Ivy Bridge will base off that socket

Wait what newly rumored delay? Has it been delayed yet again?

But to answer your questions I'd say go with the SB, it will handle everything your gonna throw at it and then you could always grab an Ivy Bridge chip in 12 months or so for a nice upgrade

this, although ive waited for bd since my BDay in jan. ill wait till sept when it finally releases. no way i'm going intel now, might aswell w8 for the 28nm 7950 to be released at the end of this year, ill have more money by then and im sure santa is going to take care of me.
Well currently Sandy Bridge outperforms (by a lot) AMD's thuban processors, But bulldozer should really be a comeback, If you can wait for bulldozer, wait, if you can't, go Sandy bridge.

Sandy bridge can hit 5ghz with watercooling and 4.5ghz air.
We don't know the overclocking abilities of bulldozer yet, though, But we expect the same as sandy bridge, well i do anyways

can't wait for FX 8-core processors

Wow, thanks for the quick replies! I'll keep checking back to see if anybody has an argument for AMD, but so far the results are pretty lopsided...
