market cap is not an indication of how much money a company actually has right now...

but i did read somewhere that apple did have the highest amounts of current cash reserves anyway.

Google is probably the missing piece in all of this. If they can have legal access to the manufacturers' patents, they can make the fight in court stronger than HTC/etc. can. I'm completely anti-Apple (I respectfully state that I have valid reasons) and only hope the worst for them. Back when the iPod was invented, sure, cool, Apple was neat and finally introduced something that a lot of people cared for. Now, the competition kills them, and usually at an equal or lower price. Nope: not a fanboy of HTC, nor Motorola, nor Samsung. I've had phones from every one of them. I just really dislike Apple.
So you would rather have a giant, personal data-mining, giant like google rule the market just because you dislike apple? I just don't understand

I don't see how data-mining personal information is relevant to fighting Apple, but I'll bite:

I have nothing to hide; the day Google compromises my TRULY personal data that I don't want them to have, I may think otherwise. Name, location, e-mail address, IP, maybe a streetview photo of my car? Balls in the air don't care. If you're submitting information that you don't want stored, you shouldn't have submitted it to begin with. Facebook is doing MUCH worse. Upload a random photo. Copy the direct link to that photo from your album. Delete the photo. Paste that direct link you copied a year later into your browser. That photo will still be there, on Facebook's storage. THAT is crazy.

...search history, browsing history, purchase history if you use google checkout. And if you use Gmail... who sends you emails, who you send mail too, and the contents of all those messages. How else are they going to send you targeted ad's via Ad-sense on every page in existence?

Lol it's a popular phrase... like saying "roll over with your balls in the air like you don't care."

Search history: You think Bing, Yahoo, and other engines don't keep track of what people search for the most, to optimize their search results? Think again.

Purchase history: You're buying from Google checkout. They process your order. You think when you buy something at the store or through ANY online merchant they shred your order and burn it immediately after? By law, records must be kept. It's a 20 year minimum I believe?

I wasn't aware that Ad-Sense pulled anything at all from e-mails. Are you sure on that? I sort of doubt that. Yes, sure, e-mails are saved on backup tape drives by Google. If you think Hotmail/AOL/other e-mail hosts work any differently, (aside from maybe using something other than tape drives) think again.

Edit: Confirmed, you're correct, Ad-Sense does read through e-mails. It's an automated process, a human will never have access to your e-mails. Everything is pretty heavily encrypted. If it's going to help in showing me ads about sports cars, smart phones, and other electronics instead of ads like "CONGRATULATIONS YOU WON AN IPAD!!!" and Viagra I'm ok with it. To this day I haven't been harmed by it and I most likely never will be.

Apple does the same thing I'm sure but to a lesser degree. Apple sells products to generate revenue (generally). Ever wonder whey every awesome thing Google release is free?? They make money off of you in other ways.

Edit: @stealthpyros I don't doubt other services do the same thing. However most people are far more entrenched in googles app world than their competitors giving them more access to our info thats all

Does anyone else just love when the big guys stick up for the 'little guys' when they are being bullied? Just makes me go all warm and fuzzy.
